Chasen Walter, Chasing Walleye!

Chasen Walter

Episode 947  Seriously, Just Fish!

A couple weeks ago I said, “ just fish”.

Well, I set out to practice what I preach. I decided it was time to go fishing without using my livescope, Vexilar T-pod, or worry about whether the barometric pressure was high or low. The only thing I was concerned about was the direction the wind was coming from with good reason. I simply wanted to fish the windy side of the lake. It has become the most important component to my daily fishing trips.
Especially in the late fall when I am rock hopping!

A few folks asked me what I mean by that and it’s simple. I am on riprap looking for those bigger fall walleye! It’s important to know that the baitfish and food the they are feeding on are on the windy side. That’s where you’ll find the bigger fish. I learned that about a decade ago and it’s held true each year.

Now I fish a calmer side. I catch white bass which I don’t mind catching by the way. They are a ton of fun And they fight like crazy. And some say they taste great! I’m a catch and release guy so the fight is fun, that's what I’m looking for. I caught 2 18 inchers the other day. Proud Anglers in South Dakota.

The interesting thing about my trips the last few weeks. Pressure has been super high and every time I see high pressure I decide not to fish, that has been a mistake. It has been 30.3 to 30.5 which is quite high. Guess what, I caught fish but they were eaters, 16 to 19 inches. The next day pressure dropped to 29.7 and I caught a fat 24 incher that weighed 8 lbs. And a 26 incher at 9lbs 14oz!
